The voice area at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts prepares students for a career in both performance and pedagogy, combining rigorous musical training with a solid foundation in general education. The program combines music and academic instruction with practical experience.
Voice students perform and train in both operas and recitals in our state-of-the-art performance facilities. Students have numerous opportunities to work with the South Bend Lyric Opera, South Bend’s professional opera company. Past masterclasses with visiting artists include Denice Graves, Amy Petrongeli, and Isai Munoz.
Students complete the core curriculum of music studies: music theory, aural and piano skills, and music history. In addition to academic music courses, students will also take lessons with applied music faculty and participate in university ensembles and chamber music. Performance opportunities include recitals, opera scenes, workshops, and outreach performances in the Michiana community.
