Student Opportunities
Music Technology and Recording Assistants
Through the federal work study program, eligible students have the possibility of working for the music department as Music Technology and Recording Assistants. While the number of positions are limited, they offer the students hands-on job training recording our music students, running sound during the Performing Media Festival, and assisting with other departmental tasks as they relate to technology
Tech Talks @ 2: Music Tech Forum
On select Fridays throughout the academic year, Dr. Olivier hosts a music technology forum (TechTalk@2). Each forum focuses on a different topic. Past topics have included an introduction to live performance in Ableton, an introduction to mastering, mixing in surround sound, and an overview of our studio plug-ins. The forum also serves as our platform for guest speakers and demonstrations as well as an opportunity for our students to present and discuss their work to their peers for feedback and encouragement.
Electronic Music Ensemble: The Audio Visual Collective
At IU South Bend, students at any level can participate in the Electronic Music Ensemble using either a laptop or their instrument of choice. The Audio-Visual Collective (AVC) provides students with the tools, controllers, and skills necessary to participate and students in the ensemble work together to create and perform interdisciplinary multimedia pieces.
The Performing Media Festival
Every year the music technology program hosts the Performing Media Festival [PMF~], which showcases student works alongside nationally recognized professionals and faculty.
